This year, the soccer team had a great season. We finished with an impressive 17–9 record and earned statement wins throughout the year.
One of the highlights of the regular season came in our thrilling double-overtime victory over De Smet, a 3–2 battle that showed our resilience and belief in each other. But the postseason is where our team truly shone. For the first time ever, we beat an MCC team in the playoffs and won the Class 3 district championship. Entering districts as the No. 3 seed behind powerhouse program Chaminade and top-ranked Westminster, we knew the path ahead wouldn’t be easy. Chaminade was ranked No. 1 in all of Class 3 and was considered one of the best teams in the entire state.
In the first round, we faced MICDS, the No. 6 seed, and controlled the match from start to finish in a commanding 7–0 win. In the district semifinal, we took down Westminster 2–0, a huge victory that confirmed our momentum. Then came the district final versus Chaminade, a team that had dominated all year. In a dramatic, high-intensity match, we battled our way to a 3–2 overtime win and earned the Class 3 district title for the first time in school history.
With that win, we advanced to the state quarterfinals to face Fort Zumwalt East. We came out strong, taking a 2–0 lead into halftime, but they responded with two goals in the second half to send the game to overtime. Unfortunately, we fell in OT, ending our run in a heartbreaking way. It’s a loss I know I’ll never forget.
But what stands out even more than the ending is everything this team accomplished. This was the best group I’ve ever been a part of, on or off the field. The camaraderie, the trust, and the willingness to give absolutely everything for each other made this season unforgettable. To reach the final eight in the state and bring home our first-ever Class 3 district championship required every player to buy in fully, and that’s exactly what we did.
Even though we didn’t make it all the way, we made history. We proved what can happen when a team believes in each other every step of the way.
I also want to thank our fans, especially Spirit Club, for the incredible support they gave us all season long. Whether it was a packed regular-season game or a playoff matchup, they brought tons of energy, noise, and inspiration. Their support pushed us in tough moments and genuinely helped us win games. Having them behind us made the season even more memorable.
This season is something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
