The new season is quickly approaching for the Priory lacrosse team, with varsity’s first jamboree this Saturday. The team has three games that morning and will play Lafayette, MICDS, and Eureka. Since Priory is coming off one of the strongest seasons in program history, there are big shoes to fill after graduating nearly 12 starters from that team. While on the outside it may seem like a rebuilding year, the players hope to keep the standard high.
Senior captains Nate Sutto and Sam Jung have instilled a strong work ethic in the team that has been evident throughout the last two weeks of practice. Specifically, the sophomore class has stepped into a big role, becoming an important part of a varsity team that lacks an extensive number of upperclassmen.

One of the goals this year is to tire out other teams by being better conditioned. To do this, the team has made sprints an essential part of practice. This past weekend, the varsity players completed a two-mile run and were expected to finish in under 14 minutes.
Unlike in previous years, for many players, lacrosse is not their main sport. Even if it is, they are still major contributors to other Priory teams. Because of this, the team has not yet had a full roster at practice. Initially, this was because many players were competing in the Wick, and others are still competing in state wrestling and basketball playoffs. While it may seem counterintuitive, the wide variety of sports played by members of the team has been beneficial, bringing a well-rounded athletic presence to the field.

While winning will require a full team effort this year, there are some new faces fans can watch for in the coming games. One is freshman Briggs Pim, who will be essential to the offense and will continue the Pim legacy in Priory lacrosse. Additionally, sophomores Andre Johnson, Tripp Redmond, and Finley Moser have bright futures because of their high intensity and sharp skills. There are also strong new goalie candidates in Ethan McGee and Jacob Kupper.
Looking ahead, the team will have its first home game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against De Smet. The team hopes to get off to a strong start and would love to see fans at the game. Show up and be loud.
