A Minecraft Movie was recently released, and is already a big hit. As of Friday the 4th, the movie has earned a global total of $110.7 million. Starring Jack Black as Steve, and Jason Mamoa as Garret Garrison, this film was filled with high quality actors. With a few exceptions, it accurately displayed the gameplay and features of the video game Minecraft. The animation was also excellent, making the minecraft world really come to life. This 1 hour 40 minute masterpiece was directed by Jared Hess, who also directed many great movies such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. While this movie was not everyone’s favorite, it still had some great moments. Here are the top 5:
#5: Flint and Steel
This occurs during the original creation of the nether portal, right before Steve is kidnapped. He rubs the flint and steel together, saying the iconic line: “Flint and Steel”.
#4: This is a Crafting Table
A memorable scene in which Steve explains the crafting aspect of the minecraft world. Afterwards, Garret makes a double bucket linked by a chain, and Henry makes a tater tot launcher. While these are not a part of the actual game, It makes for an entertaining scene and will help Henry defeat the raid later on in the movie.
#3: Steve grabs Jason Mamoa’s Cheeks
Unfortunately I couldn’t find a picture. This historic event takes place while they are flying with elytra, and need to squeeze through an extra tight hole in a wall. Jack black, while riding on Jason’s back, flips and goes nose to toes. While possibly being the only funny scene in the entire movie, this was actually written by Jason Mamoa. According to an interview with Collider, he based this off of the SNL skit Ambiguously Gay Duo.
#2: I am Steve
One of the most well known scenes from the movie, and a very close second to Chicken Jockey. Steve saves the group from a hoard of zombies, and introduces himself. This did receive a standing ovation at my theater, just not quite as much as chicken jockey.
#1: Chicken Jockey
This meme is currently MASSIVE, and everyone in the theater started cheering when it came on. Steve and Garret had fallen victim to the Pillagers, and were sent down to the arena. Steve was tied up, and Garret was forced to fight the chicken jockey on his own. Upon his supposed victory, the chicken jockey started to cry, which made him pity the zombie. Walking up to check on it, he was surprise attacked.
A Minecraft Movie had good songs, great visuals, and excellent actors. It reflected the game quite well, and had some very memorable moments. From people singing “La-la-la-lava ch-ch-ch-chicken,” to people nicknaming others Chicken Jockey, this movie has impacted the school heavily. While this movie may not have the most character development, or the greatest plot, I would still recommend everyone watch it. Because of the success of the movie, it will likely have a sequel. Hopefully the sequel has a much better plot, although I know I will watch it anyway.
