On October 19, 2025, Paris woke up to news that the Louvre had been robbed in broad daylight. The Louvre is one of the most famous museums in the world, so hearing that thieves managed to steal treasures from inside shocked a lot of people. The whole event happened fast, and even now, people are still surprised at how it all unfolded.
The heist started when four thieves arrived outside the Louvre wearing construction vests. This helped them blend in because construction workers are pretty common around the area. They brought a furniture lift on a truck and parked it near the side of the museum facing the Seine River. Using the lift, they rose up to a second-floor balcony instead of entering through any of the regular doors.
Once they reached the balcony, they used power tools to cut through a window. This gave them direct access to the museum without going through the security lines or dealing with anyone inside. After entering, they headed straight to the Apollo Gallery, where the French Crown Jewels are kept. They didn’t wander around or look at anything else, which showed they knew exactly which room held the valuable pieces.
Inside the gallery, the thieves smashed two display cases and took eight pieces of historic jewelry. These items included emeralds, crowns, and other royal gems that belonged to French leaders from the past. Even though these pieces are incredibly valuable and famous, the thieves were in the museum for less than four minutes. From the moment they arrived at the building to the moment they left, the whole thing took under eight minutes total.
When they finished grabbing the jewels, the thieves climbed back down the lift and got onto motorbikes that were waiting for them. They sped away before security even managed to react. But the escape wasn’t perfect. While leaving, they dropped one of the items, a crown, and it broke when it hit the ground. They also left behind some of the tools they used during the break-in.
After the robbery, the Louvre was evacuated, and a huge police investigation began. Dozens of experts began reviewing security footage and searching for clues to identify the thieves. People also began questioning how the group got heavy equipment close to the building without anyone asking what they were doing.
The Louvre robbery became one of the most talked-about crimes of the year, not just because of what was stolen but because of how quickly everything happened.
