As Christmas time approaches, one of the best feelings is sitting back, relaxing and enjoying a classic Christmas movie. Although there are many to choose from, I will be listing out my top five Christmas movies. Please note that each movie series is counted as one ranking.
First, the honorable mentions.
The first honorable mention is a movie that came out in 2024: Red One. Never would I have imagined that there would be a Christmas movie with Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, but I stand corrected. The movie is a fun watch, and I would recommend it if you haven’t seen it already.
The second honorable mention is The Christmas Chronicles. The first movie depicts two siblings who sneak onto Santa’s sleigh, causing him to crash-land in the middle of Chicago. The actor Kurt Russell, who plays Santa Claus, brings a fun and lighthearted energy to the character, making the movie more entertaining as a whole.
For our No. 5 spot, we’ve got National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The movie brings a fun sense of comedy to the Christmas season, differing itself from other Christmas movies with its PG-13 rating. The film depicts the craziness of the Christmas season, especially as families from all over the country come together for the holidays.
For the No. 4 spot, we’ve got to have How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch is a classic, and Jim Carrey’s portrayal of the Grinch brings a funnier depiction of the character. The movie is a Christmas favorite, depicting the story of the Grinch’s attempt to ruin Christmas for all the people of Whoville.
For the No. 3 spot, this might be controversial: Elf. Many people think that Elf takes either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot, but in my opinion, it is very overrated. It does not compare to the top two, but it is a classic and deserves a spot in the top five. Will Ferrell’s performance as the man-child, Buddy the Elf, is easily his most famous role.
At the No. 2 spot we’ve got the best movie about Santa Claus out there: The Santa Clause. If your childhood didn’t consist of the Tim Allen Santa Claus, then I don’t know what you were doing. If you didn’t watch Scott Calvin accidentally cause Santa Claus to fall off the roof, then leading to him becoming the new Santa Claus after he put on the coat, then I don’t know what to say; you missed out. The Santa Clause trilogy is pure cinema and was a big part of many people’s childhoods.
And, obviously at the No. 1 spot, we’ve got Home Alone. By the way, I am only counting the first two Home Alone movies with Macaulay Culkin; the rest are trash compared to the original two. Home Alone is easily the best Christmas movie of all time. Little Kevin gets left home alone while his family goes on a trip to France, leading to the defense of his home against the Wet Bandits, who attempt to break in. You can’t get any better than that.
I hope you somewhat agreed with my list, and I would like to end this all with a little quote: “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.”
