Chase Gerber '22

This year has been one of the best seasons for Priory wrestling. The team started the year with an almost full lineup, something not very common for us, and after our first two weeks of meets already we had an undefeated team. After four weeks of our season, many of our team members had close to undefeated records with Senior Chase Gerber in the 152 lb weight class having a complete undefeated record of 15-0 and Senior TJ Soriano in the 195 lb weight class having a close following record of 14-1. This continued until Christmas break, where we were invited to compete in the Harrisonville Christmas tournament in Kansas City, a massive two-day tournament with teams a class above us.

While we didn’t sweep it like all of our meets, several of our competitors made it to the championship bracket. Going into our last two meets and tournament of the season (All of which are hosted at Priory) the current record for the team is around 16-2. While a rocky return from winter break, due to Covid exposures and injuries make for some extra pressure, I feel that as a team we are more than ready to sweep these last meets and hopefully have multiple members of the team qualify for State in early February. Many of our team members have worked hard to cut weight to make the lower-weight classes, and while TJ Soriano is out with an injury, the rest of our seniors including first-time wrestlers Max Herr and Wyatt Simmons are ready to step up and hopefully return with a top five finish in State!
