The frisbee team is back in full swing with numerous games fast approaching. The team started off slow with only a week and a half before the season’s first game. The Dirty Birds took a tough loss to Parkway United, the number two team in the state, in the first game 3-13. After the game, however, the team began to work harder to become state contenders. The team next faced CBC who has a great team and the game was close throughout. However, with 3 minutes left, the birds were down 4. After many hard-fought points, we were able to tie the game at 9s. Sadly the team could not close out the game and lost 10-9. Sam Faust and Matthew Singer both had outstanding games, with Faust catching the frisbee 5 times, and 4 of them being scores. Most recently the team faced the Parkway United B team and dominated, winning 13-4. The team now looks better than ever and senior leadership has allowed the younger players to advance rapidly. However, the road to a state championship will not be easy. The team will likely have to face both Parkway United and Edwardsville, which are both top 30 teams in the nation. However, the birds are not discouraged and truly believe that a state championship is on the way for the ultimate frisbee team. With a new public school recruit and three great captains as well as a plethora of senior talent and young stars, the team looks very good and is more than ready for their next big game against DeSmet on Wednesday, April 16th at Priory at 4:00 pm (please mark your calendars). Senior Captain Sam Kingston said about the team “This is the best we have looked in years and while the competition is harder than ever, I am personally confident that a state championship is not out of reach. We will go, we will win, and I will retire a champion”. Senior Captain Sam Kingston referred to the team as the 2016 Cavs who against all the odds came back from the 3-1 lead and beat one of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA.
