Soccer Update

After three weeks of preseason that included a lot of conditioning and ball work, Varsity Soccer had a busy two weeks that saw us play six games in 14 days. Unfortunately, we fell out of the Metro League Tournament in the first round against Westminster after conceding a penalty early on and were unable to make the comeback. In our second game, we played MICDS and won 1-0 with a late game-winner from Luke Sommer ‘23. We played our third game at Principia and once again conceded early. Only this time we got a goal back late to force overtime. Thanks to another game-winner from Sommer, we left Principia with a 2-1 victory and confidence heading into our first game of the St. Dominic Tournament. The team struggled to find its form in the first two games against very good opponents in St. Dominic and Lindbergh and lost both. However, team chemistry rose following a visit to the Saint Louis University game against SMU. A few changes to the shape of the lineup saw us go up 3-0 against Holt inside of the first half. A late penalty killed the hopes of a clean sheet, but we left St. Dominic with a revenge victory from a bitter loss to Holt last season. Through six games the team holds a 3-3 record and are yet to play a game at our beautiful home field.

Being in Class 4 this year means we have a number of games this season against the best teams around, which is something we look forward to. This year’s team has made it our goal to enjoy the game every time we play and give a high-intensity effort in every practice to get better. It is a long season and soccer is a funny sport; anything can happen. The team couldn’t be more grateful for support at our games, and we know it usually means taking time out of your weekday schedule or early morning, but please continue to come out.
