The football team has already made its mark this season by being the first team in school history to ever beat a Class 6A team. The season opener against Hazelwood West went as planned as the Birds shut out the Wildcats 21-0. This game included a passing touchdown caught by Will Puschel ’25, and two rushing touchdowns by quarterback Gerard Grewe ’23.

In Week 2, the Birds went on to play the defending state champions Lutheran St. Charles. Although the game ended in a loss, it wouldn’t be enough to stop our momentum heading into Week 3. The team scored four touchdowns against Lutheran South: one by Jalen Riad ’23, two by Jack Parent ‘23, and one more by Gerard Grewe ’23. This upcoming Saturday, the Priory Ravens (2-1) will be competing against the MICDS Rams (3-0). Although we are the underdog, we have the opportunity for one of the biggest upsets of the 2022 season. The near future looks promising as we head into the conference portion of the schedule, with Westminster (1-2) week 5 and John Burroughs (1-2) week 6.

Playoffs are a ways away, but we’ve moved down a class since last season. Being in class 2 leaves us with an opportunity to bring home a district title, which Priory hasn’t won in over a decade. The season is far from over, and the Birds are looking forward to seeing packed stands and rowdy fans. Roll Birds.
