Tennis Update

John Newell '22

Coming off of an unprecedentedly successful season last year, the tennis team is once again looking very strong. After losing 3 of our top 6 players from last year’s team, many were discounting our ability to compete well again this year. However, the tennis team continues to punch above its weight, with standout wins against schools like SLUH and MICDS. Additionally, the tennis team claimed victory at the Metro League Tournament, and the Mid-Missouri Tournament. Of course, we want to win as many matches as possible in the regular season — but the real prize comes in post-season play. Our regular season record has no bearing on our success in the postseason; anything can happen. So, with the post season rapidly approaching, the tennis team is preparing to fight to defend its state title. The competition is as tough as ever, with very strong teams from Ladue and Barstow standing in the way. However, the tennis team has proven its ability to defeat very strong opponents, and intends on doing so again this year. Individual districts are this Friday, and team districts and sectionals are next week. These are the most crucial parts of our season, besides the state tournament itself, if we qualify. We look forward to the fight, and, with a little bit of luck, bringing home another state title.
